Growing new income streams

Down the years, many have joined a company and thought: ‘that is me set for life.’

Unfortunately this is no longer true. A job for life no longer exists alongside final pension plans. All consigned to history.

It has meant there has been a change of emphasis, when planning how your life will pan out.

The biggest issue is creating a growing income. Some sectors have not seen a pay rise in over four years, whilst others have seen such minimal rise that are not worth writing about.

Last night, I was speaking to a young lady who has been rewarded with a pay rise of 13p per hour before tax. Her part time job (22 hours) now pays an extra £2.86 per week before tax. Not even enough for a coffee in one of the tax dodging outlets on our High Street.

How can a person be expected to create a future with income like that?

Presently this young lady is around £200 per month short of income, and struggling to find a job that pays more, since employers feel she does not have the qualifications or experience.

I have offered to work with her and help improve the future prospects through support and training, and together we have established a route for the creation of extra monthly income based on part time activity (usually five to ten hours a week), which will continue to grow and grow. There is no cap on earnings.

This excites me, since it shows that multiple income streams is a positive way forward for a person, who previously may not have thought they had a way out of simply surviving.

4.5 million British adults have less than £10 spare cash each month

One in 11 people, or 4.5 million British adults, have less than £10 a month left over once they have paid their essential bills, new research from thinkmoney has found.

With many households struggling to make ends meet, the findings from budgeting account provider thinkmoney reveal the worryingly small amounts of disposable income people have left once they’ve met all their financial commitments.

Of the 2,149 people polled, one in four said they had less than £50 a month to s…pend after bills.

Across the UK, the average monthly disposable income was £224.50. However, there was a wide gender difference with men reporting having disposable incomes averaging £272.50, almost twice as much as women (£190.20).

Young people reported having the least disposable income, with 18-24 year-olds averaging £174.20 – some 22% below the overall UK average. Almost one in three people in this age group have less than £50 a month to spend after bills.

By contrast, the wealthiest in terms of post-bills spending money are people over 65, with an average of £269.50 a month available to spend.

The amount of disposable income also varies depending on where people live. It is highest in London, at an average of £261, and the South East, at £244. People in the North East and Wales have the lowest disposable incomes, at £199 and £181 respectively.

Worryingly, one in six people questioned in Wales said they had less than £10 a month to spend after bills.

“It’s stressful not knowing if you will have enough money to pay the bills and afford added extras each month,” said Ian Williams, director of communications at thinkmoney.

Work one hour overtime for free – Monday to Friday

Imagine you are at work one day… your boss comes to you and says,

“Bad news – we’re going to have to fire you. Business is bad. And the economy stinks.”

You feel depressed. No more career. No more regular wage.

And then the boss says,

“You know what? If you were to work just one extra hour overtime every day for free, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, we’ll let you keep your job and you can continue collecting your same wage.”

Now, what would you do?

Well, most people would say,

“Well, I will work the extra hour of overtime just to keep my job. I know I will be working the extra hour for free, but it is important to keep my present job.”

And then the boss says,

“Well, I know it’s kind of bad news for you but there is some good news. If you work an hour of overtime, Monday to Friday for no pay, just one extra hour a day . . . at the end of two years, we’ll let you retire at full pay.”

All of a sudden, how do you feel?

You feel like saying,

“Wow! Excellent! What an opportunity!
Just work one hour overtime for free, Monday to Friday, and two years from now . . . I retire at full pay!”

So what would happen?

You’re working overtime and six months later one of your friends says,

“Hey, why don’t you quit doing that? You’re working an hour’s overtime and not getting paid for it.”

You say to your friend,

“No way! I only have 18 more months to go and then I’m going to retire!”

A year from now, maybe your partner says,

“You know what? You’ve been working that free hour of overtime for the past 12 months. Why don’t you spend more time here at home instead of working that hour’s overtime?”

You say,

“No, no, no! Just one more year and I can retire at full pay.”

And you would be at work faithfully, Monday to Friday, working that overtime so you could retire.

And you would be excited about the opportunity.

Exciting Annual Conference

Over the last weekend, Utility Warehouse (16 and 17 March 2013), hosted its annual conference called Express Day – more than 5,500 attended in Telford.

Lots of recognition, announcements, awards and a key note speaker, sorry speakers, Richard Fenton and Andrea Waltz, who have co-written Go for No. Awesome presentation, and their principle is something I was taught many years ago.

The company itself has launched a number of initiatives for team members to make their life simpler to grow their customer numbers and teams.

Have also introduced a number of enhancements to services and reduced the price of same too (apply to existing customers as well), when many of the other suppliers have increased prices.

It is now possible for business customers to sign up online – previously only residential.

Also both within the business club and residential club there are no upfront charges for new mobile handsets making it even easier to offer mobile phone deals to new and existing club members and customers.

What is your why?

When people set out on the road to business, it is often for the right reasons, but not clearly defined reasons.

In many cases people have been made redundant, found they have a pile of cash and thought ‘let’s buy a ready made business’ and as a result invest thousands of pounds. For some that could well be the right move. for others it may not.

What is correct though, is that you must have a real reason to make it happen.

Regretfully, too many times that is not the case.

When people join our business on a part time basis, one of the first things asked is Why?

Why are you joining?
Why do you want to invest time and effort?
Why?
What is your personal reason for making this decision?

To the extent that on the very first training course people attend time is set aside to think about this and write down thoughts and ideas.

Finding your why is the first step to success, and will become your self motivator, it is perhaps why our business is winning so many awards and growing at such a rate of knotts.
